I'm going to write something because I'm bored and hate reading with a passion. If you're thinking, 'Hey Barry, maybe you're such a slow reader cause you barely ever read,' maybe you should stop thinking. That's not it. I'm just mentally retarded when it comes to moving my eyeballs across a page. My disdain for reading might have had a little something to do with bombing Econ and Accounting. But seriously... I just didn't have time this quarter... especially when you factor in that I read slow as shit.
Today I took an 8 hour (9am-5pm) First Aid & CPR class in Shoreline. I signed up for it because I wanted to be a Kayak Guide this summer on Orcas, but that sorta fell through because I don't technically know how to Kayak that well. Weird. Weird. Oh well. I called up Brian Benope the other day and he sounded stoked to hire me for $15/hr which will be cool... even if the work is going to suck ass. At least I'll be getting something done and at least it isn't the mother fucking ferry landing again. I feel bad for missing graduation on Orcas today, but I was legitimately busy. Honest. I feel bad. But really, there are only a few people I'd have gone for and I'm sure I'll see them plenty this Summer. Maybe.
I think that working at the Donner's will be good for me. I think it will give me more leeway as far as scheduling goes. I can see more concerts, go to more parties, go on more trips, etc. I really want to go on a kayaking journey or two over the summer. Maybe more, even. I need to get it organized as soon as I get up there because I don't plan on staying on Orcas very far into August. I'm running out of chances to do something like this until I graduate -- and then I will probably have a job and have to support myself. It'll be hard to get away for a trip.
Next year I need to secure a job that will really benefit me. It either needs to benefit me as a person, make me stronger, more confident, a better leader, etc; or on a more career oriented level, do an internship for Informatics or something. Either way I don't want to be parking cars at the ferry or digging holes and clearing brush. Even construction would probably be better.
Oh yeah. Another thing I need to do this Summer is make myself a big gay paddle for Fireman's Ball next Fall quarter. I'll have plenty of time; I should be able to make a really cool looking one. I could have Thad take me to Chris Betcher's shop and then whip up something bad ass. Come to think of it, I should probably get ahold of Thad soon and make sure I can live in his living room.
